Although not as famous as Venice, Viareggio can celebrate "Carnivale" as big as anyone. Kicking off late January and running until mid February the seaside town literally explodes into a sea of costumes, floats and colours as people come from all over Italy to rub shoulders with the locals. Situated about an hour away from Florence, the short trip will definitely be worth the effort. Click here for a full guide.
For chocolate lovers (which should mean everyone) February plays host to the "Artisan Chocolate Fair" held annually in the Piazza Della Repubblica.Tuscany's top chocolatiers (what an amazing job) show off the fruits of their labour whilst shows, workshops and sampling takes place. The fair will run from the 8th - 17th of February.
