Christmas markets in Berlin

Berlin, like all of Germany, is literally full of markets from the end of November onwards.

Most markets end on 23/24 December.

One very special and super-original market is the "Historischer Weihnachtsmarkt", which is located in the RAW area and is Berlin's historic market! There are jugglers and fire-eaters, typical food and people operating wooden rides. All the workers wear period costumes and you can see ancient crafts: people forging knives and swords, working with wood and spinning wool. An event which is sure to delight everyone, only 10 minutes' walk from our hostel!

Where: Revaler Straße 99

When: from Monday to Wednesday entry is free, from Thursday to Sunday it costs €2, children under 5 enter for free.

One highly popular market, which is undeniably very touristy but attracts Berliners too as it's the Christmas market par excellence, is the Gendarmen Markt. It's held in the spectacular centre of Berlin, where you can find typical products, fantastic food stands, a magnificent tree and a stage continuously hosting Christmas-themed events including choirs and shows.

Tierpark Market, in one of the city's green and well-known areas. The location is even more appealing in the festive season, when the evocative setting of a historic estate plays host to a charming typical market... and to make sure nothing's missing, there's even an ice rink.

If you're looking for a less touristy place, there's a very special market in Plenzauerberg at the Kuturbrauerei. A highly distinctive location as it was formerly a brewery, with lots of small red-brick buildings. Here you can find local food products, which also make great gifts!

In Richard Platz "Alt-Rixdorfer", a neighbourhood with a Bohemian feel, you'll find a market that's small but full of character.
