Christmas markets in Berlin

10 dec 19

Berlin, like all of Germany, is literally full of markets from the end of November onwards.

Most markets end on 23/24 December.

One very special and super-original market is the "Historischer Weihnachtsmarkt", which is located in the RAW area and is Berlin's historic market! There are jugglers and fire-eaters, typical food and people operating wooden rides. All the workers wear period costumes and you can see ancient crafts: people forging knives and swords, working with wood and spinning wool. An event which is sure to delight everyone, only 10 minutes' walk from our hostel!

Where: Revaler Straße 99

When: from Monday to Wednesday entry is free, from Thursday to Sunday it costs €2, children under 5 enter for free.

Info: https://www.historische-weihnacht.de/

Among our activities, we offer mini-trips to the Markthalle, where from the end of November there are days dedicated to local food linked to Christmas traditions.

 Where: Arminiusstraße 2

When: Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 10:00 pm

Free Entry

One highly popular market, which is undeniably very touristy but attracts Berliners too as it's the Christmas market par excellence, is the Gendarmen Markt. It's held in the spectacular centre of Berlin, where you can find typical products, fantastic food stands, a magnificent tree and a stage continuously hosting Christmas-themed events including choirs and shows.

Where: Gendarmenmarkt 5–6

When: 25 November – 31 December 2019, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm

24 December: 11:00 am – 6:00 pm

31 December: 11:00 am – 1:00 am

Entrance fee.

Tierpark Market, in one of the city's green and well-known areas. The location is even more appealing in the festive season, when the evocative setting of a historic estate plays host to a charming typical market... and to make sure nothing's missing, there's even an ice rink.

Where: Tierpark

When: 21 November to 5 January,

5:00 pm to 10:30 pm (closed 25/26 November and 2/3/4/24/31 December 2019)

Entry fee

If you're looking for a less touristy place, there's a very special market in Plenzauerberg at the Kuturbrauerei. A highly distinctive location as it was formerly a brewery, with lots of small red-brick buildings. Here you can find local food products, which also make great gifts!

Where: Knaackstraße 97, Berlin

When: 25 November to 22 December

Monday – Friday 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Saturday – Sunday 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Free entry

In Richard Platz "Alt-Rixdorfer", a neighbourhood with a Bohemian feel, you'll find a market that's small but full of character. Here you can go for a top culinary experience in one of the best-known typical German restaurants, with the biggest schnitzels you've ever seen. They're very famous and absolutely delicious! The restaurant's called "Louis Restaurant".

Where: Richardplatz 28

When: 6 – 8 December 2019; Friday 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Saturday 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Sunday 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Free Entry

For those wanting to get out of the city centre...

Dahlem is a bit outside Berlin, but it's a very beautiful area full of greenery. This market is full of character, with blacksmiths, potters, musical instrument makers and the opportunity to admire artisanal weaving!

Where: Königin-Luise-Straße 49

When: 30 November & 1 December, 7 & 8 December, 14 & 15 December, 21 & 22 December 2019; 11:00 am – 7:00 pm

Our guide has come to an end – we hope it's given you some useful ideas and advice about the Christmas markets. We're sure that beautiful Berlin, with its magical Christmas atmosphere, will form the perfect backdrop for your festive shopping!
